Michael Friis Johansen

A sign marking the distance to the next two towns in Labrador is one of the last things drivers see before they leave Happy Valley-Goose Bay heading west. Before the 1970s no roads connected Central Labrador to anywhere else, but that changed with the construction of a hydroelectric dam at Churchill Falls. The road to the rest of Canada was completed more than 20 years later.
