Lacking any other convenient perch, three large Indonesian black box turtles stack themselves to get above the water of a shallow artificial pond in the rooftop gardens of a West Jakarta apartment complex. As with most of Indonesia's endemic species, there's a lucrative trade in all kinds of turtles. The lucky ones stay in the country in relative comfort.
