The bright pink waters of a tailings pond for mines near Fermont, Quebec greet drivers on their way to and from Labrador along Route 389. Many of the roadways in Labrador and northern Quebec were built for industrial use, not for the convenience of the traveling public, so they more often connect mines and hydroelectric dams than human settlements.
