The province of Quebec's official symbol, the fleur de lyse, is carved out of the trunk of a dead tree that is still rooted in place in an arts enclave in the woods beside Route 389 in eastern Canada. Beside the fleur de lyse is a less symbolic, but no less arresting painting on another old log. Such artworks are scattered throughout the surrounding forest.
